Philadelphia VIP, the hub of pro bono in Philadelphia, recruits, trains, and supports volunteer attorneys who provide free legal services to low-income clients.
Philadelphia VIP seeks a highly motivated, detail oriented, dependable undergraduate student to serve as an intern with our Communications and Development teams. Our Communications and Development teams strive to strengthen VIP’s brand recognition, build relationships, recruit volunteers & donors, instill credibility in the Philadelphia community, and further VIP’s fundraising goals. VIP’s prominent communications initiatives include branding and graphic design, digital and email marketing, public and media relations, as well as social media marketing.
The Communications & Development intern will gain valuable experience, including:
Communication, public speaking and interviewing skills with volunteers and clients
Draft written features, client profiles, articles, e-blasts and news releases
Research social media articles and initiatives and build a portfolio of creative social posts
Gain design experience in Adobe, Microsoft Publisher and Canva
Research, create, and present operations and donor/grant reports to extract and analyze data, develop statistics, best practices, and other findings.
Assist with donor outreach and fundraising follow-up through print and electronic communication.
Learn to provide critical workflow support using Philly VIP’s cloud based database (Legal Server) for donor stewardship, volunteer intake, and research.
The Communications & Development Intern will:
Draft written communications to clients and volunteer attorneys to inform them of upcoming events and resources
Take event photos and upload to VIP internal storage
Interview volunteers and write features
Conduct research for events and programs, as well as help organize and attend events
Interview clients and write stories to have on-hand for PR and Fundraising
Research social media articles and create social media content
Update volunteer and donor information in VIP’s Legal Server database
Recruit new volunteers/donors through outreach initiatives
Candidates who can demonstrate the following will be strongly considered:
Strong organization skills and keen attention to details and accuracy
Interest in Communications/Marketing as well as Fundraising/Development
Excellent creative/narrative writing skills
Proficient with social media pages including Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter
Prior experience in event coordination and some design experience a plus
Aptitude and appreciation for technology, including a working knowledge of Microsoft Office
applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel and Access.
Ability to commit to base of 12 hours weekly (during school year; 20 in summer) will receive preference, as will candidates who can continue into new semesters or summer sessions.
