2014 Communications and Fundraising Internship

The Committee of Seventy fights for honest and effective government, fair elections and better informed citizens in Philadelphia and the region.

We raise public awareness about complex issues in commonsense language that non-experts can relate to. We are willing to stand alone on tough issues or collaborate with like-minded organizations, make noise to call attention to reform opportunities or work quietly behind-the-scenes. Seventy uses its voice and influence to help provoke debate and affect real change.

Seventy:
• Educates citizens on how government can work better;
• Fights for the best use of taxpayers’ dollars, calling attention to government misconduct and wastefulness;
• Monitors and work to ensure fair and well-run elections; and
• Advocates for efficiency, transparency and ethical behavior from public officials and all branches of regional governments.

Seventy is the only independent, non-political organization of its kind in the region pursuing these goals.
The Committee of Seventy is looking for an energetic self-starter seeking professional communication, development and non-profit experience. The intern will report directly to the Development Manager.

Responsibilities could include:
– Support the organization’s newly redesigned website including content creation, editing and image searches to populate the site.
– Assist with all fundraising efforts including prospect research, events and the development of a new membership program
– Contribute to the organization’s social media presence
– Develop and enhance communication materials and other tasks as needed
– Provide information to individuals who submit inquiries to Seventy via email or hotline, or refer them to the appropriate government agency.

Students must show initiative, flexibility and creativity. Strong organizational, communications, writing and research skills are a must.
