The Food Trust, founded in 1992, is a non-profit organization working to ensure that everyone has access to affordable, nutritious food. The food Trust works to educate the public about good nutrition and to increase the availability of fresh food in neighborhoods throughout the region and state. The Food Trust works with school districts, supermarket operators, corner store owners, public and private partners, and farmers to make fresh food and nutrition education available to everyone. The Food Trust has an immediate opening for a part-time Communication Associate.
The Communication Associate is responsible for supporting The Food Trust’s communications team with raising awareness about issues of food and nutrition in the popular media and raising the profile of The Food Trust to attract partners, donors, and allies, and draw potential participants/customers to our programs and services. The Communication Associate will serve as a point of contact with print, radio and television media outlets. This position will support the maintenance of The Food Trust’s websites and other electronic communication outlets and support the production of the organization’s numerous print publications. The Communications Associate will provide assistance to other The Food Trust program and development staff in maintaining clear and consistent messages about The Food Trust’s work.
The successful candidate will demonstrate:
Strong understanding of and ability to perform the concepts and practices of business communications and public relations with strong writing and editing abilities.
Strong understanding of and ability to work effectively with the Internet, web-based programs, website management, HTML and CSS, and various social media outlets.
Ability to operate a computer and use a variety of common software programs including Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, and other related software.
Strong interpersonal skills as demonstrated by compassionate, courteous, cordial, cooperative, and professional interaction with diverse groups of co-workers, external business partners, and the community.
High degree of professionalism and integrity.
BA/BS degree from an accredited college or university in a related field of study.
1+ years of related experience in website and/or social media management or similar corporate communication role.
