Intern Posting: Unpaid

Public Citizens for Children and Youth (PCCY) is the region’s leading child advocacy organization. For over thirty years, we have advocated to improve the lives and life chances of children in Pennsylvania.

The education department is currently seeking an Education Policy Intern and Communications Intern to join our team.  We work to promote equitable school funding, excellent school climate, and accountability in public schools.  We assess, inform, and advocate for policies that increase the likelihood that children are successful. The education department issues policy briefs, conducts legislative visits, and provides public testimony to increase educational equity for all children.

The Education Policy Intern will work closely with the education directors in their efforts towards improving public education by assisting with research, writing, and advocacy.  PCCY will work with the intern to craft a schedule that is most conducive to other commitments.

The Communications Intern will assist with all areas of PCCY’s communications efforts.  The intern will contribute to PCCY’s social media platforms, assist with press releases and outreach, as well as work alongside the Communications Director on other projects.

The positions are a great opportunity to learn about education, social justice, advocacy, and policy. Interns will gain experience working within a non-profit in addition to engaging in city and state politics.  We seek to develop our interns professionally and offer many opportunities to network and interact with a host of professionals.

Qualifications:
•    Ability to work 12-20 hours per week (with some flexibility to work remotely)
•    Proficient in Microsoft Excel & Word
•    Familiarity with social media.

•    A self starter, able to work independently.
•    Ability to work and prioritize multiple tasks

If you are interested in this position, please send your resume and a 1-3 page writing sample to Shanee Garner at [email protected] and Anthony Hopkins at [email protected]. These positions may be eligible for work-study.
