College Retention Advisor, Philadelphia Futures

Philadelphia Futures, a nonprofit organization committed to improving the educational opportunities for low income, first-generation-to-college students, has an opening for a College Retention Advisor. This position is a member of a team that delivers a comprehensive support system for collegians participating in Philadelphia Futures Sponsor-A-Scholar (SAS) and College Connection Programs, with the goal of achieving the highest possible retention and graduation rates.
Knowledge and understanding of higher education retention issues, particularly related to low income, first-generation-to-college students, required. Responsibilities include:
• Maintaining ongoing contact with approximately 90 collegians, through in-person meetings, phone, email and social media.
• Counseling with respect to financial aid issues.
• Connecting students with campus resources and helping students navigate multiple issues related to academic success.
• Establishing and maintaining relationships with campus liaisons.
• Visiting campuses to meet with liaisons and to observe students in their college environment.
• Planning and organizing workshops and events for collegians.
• Maintaining accurate data and records on collegians.
• Guiding collegians in transition from college to career.
The successful candidate will support a culture of high expectations, accountability and personal responsibility and will possess the following experience, skills and attributes:
• Bachelor’s degree in higher education, counselling, social work or related field of study. Master’s degree preferred.
• Minimum of five years’ experience in working with college or high school students; experience working in a college environment in enrollment management, student services, academic advising or career counseling is a plus.
• Excellent written and oral communications; Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications; facility with ETO software platform is a plus.
This position reports to the Director of College Retention and Success. This is a full-time, exempt position and offers a competitive compensation/benefits package based on experience.
