College Prep Round Table on Students with Learning Disabilities and Special Needs

There will be a very special College Prep Round Table on February 12, 2004. It will be a professional development on ?Students with Learning Disabilities and Special Needs and Access to Higher Education?. Our facilitator/moderator will be Francesca DiRosa, Director of the Center on Disabilities at the Community College of Philadelphia. This professional development is designed for the college-prep professional/practitioner. The professional development will be divided into 2 sessions.

Session 1 beginning at 9:00 AM is entitled ?A Guide to Transitioning Students to Postsecondary Institutions?. This session will focus on the following areas:

? Postsecondary Accessibility to Students with Disabilities
? Key components of an Accessible Institution
? Postsecondary Requirements for Providing Special Accommodations to Students with Disabilities
? Community College vs. Four Year Institutions
? Types of Accommodations Provided in Postsecondary Educational Setting

Session 2 beginning at 10:45 AM is entitled ?Special Education vs. Reasonable Accommodation (PL-142 vs. ADA)? and focus on the following topics:

? How Accommodations operate in the Postsecondary Setting
? The ?Qualified Student with a Disability?
? Rights and Responsibilities of the Student and the Institution
? Assistive Technology
? The Role of OVR and BVS in the Postsecondary Educational Process

Because this College Prep Round Table will be facilitated as a professional development that will conclude at 1:00 PM it is extremely important that all attendees RSVP for the session they plan to attend. Those planning to stay for the second session will be provided lunch. Please RSVP me whether you plan to attend session 1 only, session 2 only or both sessions.

The meeting will take place at Holy Family University, Frankford and Grant Avenues. We will be located in the Campus Center, Room 115.
