Colin Higgins Foundation Accepting Letters of Inquiry for HIV Prevention and Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Empowerment
Deadline: June 2, 2004 (Letters of Inquiry)
The Colin Higgins Foundation (<a href="http://colinhiggins.org/">http://colinhiggins.org/</a>), a leader in lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) philanthropy, is accepting letters of inquiry from organizations that focus on a) innovative programs in the areas of HIV prevention, education, and care for people infected, affected, and at risk for HIV; and b) empowering LGBT peoples through fostering leadership and combating homophobia.
Organizations may apply for either general or project support. The foundation will only consider letters of inquiry from organizations with project budgets under $500,000. Organizations with overall budgets larger than $2 million are ineligible to apply regardless of the project budget size. Any organizations or projects based in urban areas (defined as having a population over one million) are ineligible to apply unless their focus is on one of the foundation’s areas of specific emphasis: youth and/or demographically underserved communities such as communities of color, transgender communities, or low-income communities.
The foundation does not accept letters of inquiry from universities/colleges, secondary schools, individuals, for-profit corporations, or faith-based organizations. Nor does it support political or legislative activities (unless undertaken by a 501(c)(4) organization), endowments, deficit budgets, or capital campaigns, although it will consider requests for capital improvements. The foundation does not consider letters of inquiry from or award grants outside the United States, or from organizations and projects whose primary work is outside the U.S.
The foundation has one grant cycle a year and generally awards grants ranging from $5,000 to $15,000.
See the foundation’s Web site for complete eligibility information, program guidelines, and application procedures.
