Domestic and dating violence, or intimate partner violence (IPV), is a global crisis that has short- and long-term effects that negatively impact the independence and economic security of survivors. Statistics show that over 27 percent of women in the United States have experienced sexual violence, physical violence, or stalking by an intimate partner in their lifetime, compared to 11 percent of men. Even further, studies show that 74 percent of survivors report staying with an abuser for economic reasons.
