REPORTS TO: Vice President of Civic Initiatives
DEPARTMENT: Civic Initiatives
BACKGROUND:
The National Constitution Center (NCC), located on Philadelphia’s Independence Mall, is the first museum in the world dedicated to honoring and explaining the U.S. Constitution through more than 100 interactive and multi-media exhibits, artifacts and film. The Center also houses the Annenberg Center for Education and Outreach, which serves as a hub for national constitutional education, debates, teacher resources and as a home for visiting scholars and experts. Thanks to additional funding from the Annenberg Foundation, the Center in 2006 is ready to expand nationally and become the mecca for civic life, promoting the ?positive passion for the public good? that John Adams said was essential to maintaining liberty.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Civic Initiatives Manager will work collaboratively with the VP of Civic Initiatives and closely with other staff to develop, coordinate and in some instances, oversee the annual implementation of the Center?s Civic Initiatives. These initiatives include, but are not limited to, The Peter Jennings Institute for Journalists and the Constitution, an annual Constitutional Convention, and Constitution Day. These programs will help the Center fulfill its broader mission of helping Americans, especially young Americans, develop the tools, skills and motivation to become truly active citizens.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
? Coordinate logistics for the department?s three major annual programs ?Peter Jennings Institute annual two day conference; Constitutional Convention, and Constitution Day
? Assist the VP in workshop and material development for the Peter Jennings Institute
? Develop issues and curricula for the Constitutional Convention
? Work with the VP and other staff members to secure speakers and prominent figures for the department?s annual programs
? Coordinate the Center?s onsite Constitution Day activities including ?America Reads the Constitution? and ?I Signed the Constitution?
? Create and implement tools to evaluate the Center?s Civic Initiatives
? Serve as a point-of-contact between the Center and the Annenberg Foundation, as well as other donors
? Work closely with the Center?s PR staff to generate publicity for various programs
? Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
? Bachelor?s degree required
? A minimum of 3 – 5 years marketing, public relations, or program development experience
? Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills
? Team player and competent leader with proven managerial skills
? Ability to prepare and manage budget projections and expenditures
? Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
? Ability to produce under tight deadlines with multiple priorities
? Ability to work some nights and weekends
? Deep interest in and knowledge of constitutional history and commitment to the Center?s vision of promoting active citizenship
