General Description:
SEAMAAC welcomes applications for a Civic Engagement Canvasser. SEAMAAC is a nonprofit organization in Philadelphia, with the mission “To support and serve immigrants and refugees and other politically, socially and economically marginalized communities as they seek to advance the condition of their lives in the United States.” SEAMAAC envisions a strong and unified society, where immigrants and refugees work alongside other Americans to build shared political, economic and social power. We envision a community where the contributions of each generation of Americans, whether Native to this land, immigrant, or brought against their will, are equally acknowledged, valued and embraced, and where all people live whole, healthy lives with joy and dignity.
Essential Responsibilities: SEAMAAC’s Civic Engagement Program engages Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) and other BIPOC communities in the electoral process. The Field Coordinator develops and implements SEAMAAC’s non-partisan Voter Education, Voter Registration, Get Out the Vote (GOTV), Voter Protection, and other civic engagement activities, according to funder guidelines. The Coordinator trains and organizes field staff and/or volunteers. The Coordinator also conducts data entry and quality control including voter registrations and voter contact data. The Coordinator represents SEAMAAC when working with various coalitions and partners. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Activities Planning & Coordination: coordinate and manage the program activities calendar including voter registration, voter education, Get Out the Vote, and voter protection goals. Lead the implementation of these activities.
- Training: Help create and lead trainings related to civic engagement topics for staff, volunteers, and/or community members. Actively participate in all phone/text banks, as well as lead field team.
- Supervision: Onboard and provide ongoing supervision to field team including Canvasser(s) and volunteers.
- Canvassing: Lead, organize, and participate in field canvassing efforts. Actively engage with community members to encourage civic participation and provide information related to SEAMAAC campaigns and projects, primarily, through in-person, door-to-door interactions.
- Community Education: Prepare campaign materials such as flyers, mailers, digital presentations, and brochures. Support the development of translated materials into target AAPI languages.
- Data & Quality Assurance: Maintain accurate, current, and detailed data relating to individual community engagements; enter the collected information into program database(s). Monitor campaigns and field work to see if goals are being achieved.
- Coalition Building: Actively engage in civic engagement partner meetings; build relationships and support partner organizations around civic engagement programming.
- Outreach: Participate in key civic engagement outreach methods including voter registration, canvassing, phone banking community members to GOTV, text banking community members to GOTV, and working in the field. Assist with mobilizing communities around non-partisan civic engagement, voter registration, voter education, voter protection, and get out the vote work.
