City Year Greater Philadelphia Will Hold 4th Annual Serve-A-Thon?
As 750 Citizen Volunteers and 175 Young Leaders
Revitalize the Rivera Recreation Center
Philadelphia, PA ? On Saturday, October 23rd City Year Greater Philadelphia and 750 citizen volunteers will come together for the 4th annual Serve-a-thon. City Year?s annual day of community service will bring together people of all ages and backgrounds from throughout the Delaware Valley for a day of physical community service in partnership with the Philadelphia Department of Recreation.
The Rivera Recreation Center, located in the Kensington section of Philadelphia, houses a PAL center, a teen center, and the Mann adult center. In order to restore Rivera?s role as a central meeting place for community members of all ages, volunteers will paint over graffiti and create murals, resurface two handball courts and two basketball courts, refurbish two softball fields, and restore two playground sets.
WHAT: City Year Greater Philadelphia?s 4th Annual Serve-A-Thon
WHO: 1,000 community volunteers including 750 citizen volunteers and 175 City Year corps members; community, corporate, and civic leaders, including:
* Vic Richard, Commissioner, Department of Recreation
* Bob Sullivan, Director of Corporate Communication, CSX
* Rick Mariano, City Councilman (invited)
WHEN: 9:00 am ? 4:00 pm, Saturday, October 23, 2004
Registration begins at 8:45 am.
Opening Ceremony begins at 9:30 am.
