ABOUT THE TRAINING

Citizen Journalism: Media Of the People and By the People

The Media Mobilizing Project (MMP) believes that media must be connected to the economic and social realities of everyday life. The right to free speech means little without the right to be heard.  By sharing our stories, for the purposes of education, outreach, and organizing, we break through the fragmentation of our issues and the isolation of our communities, to inspire and unite those who have a vested interested in change.

This course will help Participants in learning to approach journalistic video storytelling, in a way that takes into critical consideration the use of media frameworks, messaging, and audience.  This course will provide:

* Hands-on experience and skills in interviewing, researching, story-telling and video documentation.
* Flip video cameras, with which to create a 5-10 minute video throughout the duration of the 6-week  course.
* A year-long internet subscription.
* A notebook computer (at the end of the 6-week course).

Together we can begin to create community driven journalism, so that the various groups in Philadelphia working for social change can promote and spread consciousness about their struggle and eventually develop better living conditions here in the city and beyond.
