Public Citizens for Children and Youth is looking for a part-time (24-28 hours spread over 3-4 days a week), temporary (January to June 30, 2012) staff member to assist with several targeted children’s health related projects.

The initial focus of the position will be coordinating all outreach and logistical aspects “Give Kids Sight Day” – the 3rd annual day of free vision screenings and eye glasses for Philadelphia children and youth. The event will take place on Saturday, April 14 at Wills Eye and the adjacent Jefferson Medical Center campus. The goal is to provide care to 2,000 kids on this one day.

The Coordinator will work with the assistance of a coalition of organizations to recruit as many as 400 volunteers (medical and non-medical) to register, escort and entertain children and parents. The Coordinator will take the lead in publicizing the day – working with schools, community-based organizations and local media to raise awareness.

The position simultaneously involves supportive work on other vision care and health-related activities. This work includes helping to strengthen public policy regarding vision care and advocating for good vision care services and benefits in the state’s preparations for implementing the Affordable Care Act. The work involves conducting research, outreaching to policy influencers and policy makers and helping to write related briefing papers and advocacy materials.

We are looking for an individual with experience in program and volunteer management, event planning, working with coalitions and writing for advocacy. The Coordinator must possess very good organizational and time management skills and attention to detail as well as excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Salary will be commensurate with experience. Health insurance benefits offered.
