Childhood Literacy Coach, Temple University
Posted by Temple University on December 17, 2019
The Vanguard project focuses on improving kindergarten readiness for children in poverty. To accomplish this, we will implement Story Talk, an evidenced-based language and literacy program, in community and family childcare centers in high-needs communities in North Philadelphia. Teachers will receive training and coaching to implement effective strategies that will increase children’s language and vocabulary and provide them with the vocabulary skills they need to for reading readiness.
An early Childhood Literacy coach will be hired for the Vanguard Project. This is a three-year, grant funded position.
The Literacy Coach will support teachers in North Philadelphia childcares to implement Story Talk, a research-based language and literacy program. The Coach will work directly with childcare Directors and teachers providing classroom-based demonstrations and one-on-one support, and facilitating teacher inquiry and related professional development. The Coach will focus on enhancing teachers’ ability to promote instruction that builds students’ language and vocabulary development. The Coach will also train teachers to administer ongoing assessments. Performs other duties as assigned.
