Women Against Abuse, Inc (WAA) is the leading and largest provider of services to victims of domestic violence in both the City of Philadelphia and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The mission of WAA is to provide a holistic scope of quality and compassionate services to victims of domestic violence in a manner that fosters self-respect and independence. With a little under 100 staff, WAA serves over 10,000 individuals each year through emergency residential services (100 bed shelter and 12 transitional housing apartments), legal services, hotline counseling, aftercare services, community education/ training, and advocacy.

Child Care Worker
The primary responsibilities will be to create and maintain a safe and stimulating environment for children (ages 2-14), provide care and activities for children’s learning programs in a structured setting and to assist with program planning and coordination. The Educational Services Program provides trauma informed child care services for pre-school children and a summer camp program for elementary children age K-6. This position will provide child care worker coverage as needed, within our emergency shelter and transitional housing programs. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: planning and carrying out recreational activities for all ages of children, including family groups; implementing individual plans for children, as appropriate; maintaining records and progress notes; assisting mothers in developing parenting skills; advocating for the children and provide them with emotional support; maintaining orderliness and cleanliness in the classroom and related areas (clean area and toys as required with health and safety standards); may provide oversight to the activities of volunteers working with the children; and assisting in other children’s program activities, as necessary. All responsibilities are implemented according to our mission and vision and according to Agency standards.
Qualifications:
• High School Diploma or the equivalent is required.
• A certificate in childcare, early childhood education or related field is strongly preferred.
• Three (3) to five (5) years experience working with children in a mixed-aged group is required.
• Demonstrated experience in delivering effective learning activities is required.
• Demonstrated proficiency in communication, both verbal and written, is required.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse population is required.
• Demonstrated commitment to service of others is required.
• A valid Pennsylvania driver’s license is required.
• Will be required to attend 40 hours of Domestic Violence Training, post hire.
• Employment offer and continued employment are contingent upon satisfactory pre-employment physical, child abuse, criminal and FBI clearances required (all related fees will be paid by Women Against Abuse).
Hours: Monday – Friday, 20 hours per week (specific schedule TBD). Location: Philadelphia, PA 19141
