Back on My Feet (BoMF) is a national nonprofit organization that is dedicated to creating independence and self-sufficiency within the homeless and other underserved populations by first engaging them in running as a means to build confidence, strength and self-esteem. The organization does not provide food nor shelter, but instead provides a community that embraces equality, respect, discipline, teamwork and leadership.
Back on My Feet has chapters in Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington DC, Boston, Chicago, Dallas-Ft. Worth, Indianapolis, Atlanta and New York City, and plans to expand to the West Coast in 2013.

About the Position
BoMF has been growing steadily and is now seeking to accelerate growth, while maintaining stability and improving efficiencies at their existing chapters and at the national level. The board and CEO are looking for a mission-focused, seasoned, strategic, and process-minded leader with experience scaling an organization, leading an executive management team, and developing a performance culture among a group of diverse, talented individuals. The CSOO must be a leader who is able to help others at BoMF deliver measurable results that make the mission a reality. While it is essential that the CSOO bring efficient and effective systems to increase the productivity of the organization, is it also critical that the work with the team to retain the creative spark that drives the BoMF mission and methodology. The CSOO must communicate and implement BoMF’s strategy internally and externally so that all employees, corporate partners, and external networks understand the company-wide strategic plan and how it carries out the BoMF’s overall mission. Internally, the CSOO will define and clarify BoMF’s strategy, ensuring that all employees understand the details of the strategic plan and how their work connects to BoMF’s goals.
The Chief Strategy and Operations Officer (CSOO) at Back on My Feet is a senior level position responsible for assisting the CEO and Vice Presidents with creating, communicating, implementing, and sustaining strategic initiatives. This will scope will include the Back on My Feet program, fundraising strategies, organizational policies and procedures, growth strategy, etc. The position requires strong problem-solving and interpersonal skills, the ability to challenge the status quo and drive innovative thinking and the capability to successfully implement strategy. The CSOO will work with, and across all departments and both divisions, to establish specific plans, deliverables and measurable objectives. This position will drive and influence decision making that will result in both the short and long-term growth of the organization.
Qualifications & Experience
Minimum of a BA in a Management or Business related subject.
Strong growth strategy development and operational management experience required – working at a senior/executive level with 8-10 years of experience in a
dynamic organization.
Experience of working with US and Global nonprofit organizations required (ideally experience with more than one.
Demonstrated experience in strategic and financial planning/analysis with previous experience overseeing human resources and information technology teams.
Skills should include organizational development, personnel management, budget and resource development, and strategic planning; demonstrated success developing and monitoring systems to manage both operational and programmatic work that involve high levels of collaboration.
International experience working across various continents and language skills required to support international expansion aspirations.
Result-proven track record of exceeding goals and a bottom-line orientation; evidence of the ability to consistently make good decisions through a combination of analysis, wisdom, experience, and judgment; high level of business acumen, including successful P&L management and the ability to balance the delivery of programs against the realities of a budget; problem solving, project management, and creative resourcefulness.
Strategic Vision and ability to think strategically, anticipate future consequences and trends, and incorporate them into the organizational plan.
Capacity Building: ability to effectively build organization and staff capacity, developing a topnotch workforce and the processes that ensure the organization runs smoothly.
Leadership and Organization: exceptional capacity for managing and leading people; a team builder who has experience in scaling up organizations; ability to connect staff both on an individual level and in large groups; capacity to enforce accountability, develop and empower topnotch leaders from the bottom up, lead from the top down, cultivate entrepreneurship, and learn the strengths and weaknesses of the team so as to put people in a position to succeed.
Action Oriented: enjoys working hard and looks for challenges; able to act and react as necessary, even if limited information is available; not afraid to take charge of a situation; can overcome resistance to leadership and take unpopular stands when necessary.
General Management: thorough understanding of finance, systems, and HR; broad experience with the full range of business functions and systems, including strategic development and planning, budgeting, business analysis, finance, information systems, human resources, and marketing.
