Carnegie Classification for Community Engagement webinar series

Posted by on January 20, 2014

Are you seeking guidance as you complete your institution’s application for the Carnegie Classification for Community Engagement? Consider the following three-part webinar series that is packaged from the 2013 Peer Development Network (PDN) produced by the Eastern Region Campus Compacts (ERCC).

Background

Applications for the Carnegie Classification for Community Engagement require a considerable amount of effort in terms of data collection and institutional documentation. So the Eastern Region Campus Compact (ERCC) formed a Peer Development Network (PDN) to support campuses as they assessed the attainability of the classification, the structure of their self-study processes, and the challenges they might encounter throughout the process.

Of all the benefits of participation with the PDN, foremost was the opportunity to engage with leaders in the field of community engagement through a series of three webinar sessions that were facilitated by Dr. Lina Dostilio (Duquesne University).  Each webinar allowed institutional teams a chance to hear about expectations, and what kind of experiences might be in store along the way as they navigated an exhaustive assessment of community engagement at their own institutions.

Webinar Information

In Webinar I, “Overview of the Classification and Framework”, Drs. John Saltmarsh and Lina Dostilio provide an orientation to the classification including its history, rationale for campuses to participate, and an overview of the application frameworks being used in 2015.  Participants were asked to familiarize themselves with the 2015 frameworks.

In Webinar II, “Tracking and Measuring Engagement”, Dr. Barbara Holland guide participants to familiarize themselves with the areas of the documentation frameworks (for first-time as well as reclassification institutions) that focus on tracking and measuring engagement.

In Webinar III, “Model Processes”, three campuses share their successful application processes. Weber State University, Tennessee State University, and Mount Wachusset Community College share the formation of their teams, the processes they used, and what they gained from the application process and the classification.
