Coming of Age sponsors 2-day workshop on engaging 50+
WHYY, a founding partner of Coming of Age, the Philadelphia-based national age 50+ civic engagement initiative, will present the initiative’s signature two day capacity-building workshop, Capturing the Energy and Expertise of People Age 50+ Learning Lab on May 9th and 16th.
The Lab will be presented both days from 9am to 4pm at WHYY, 150 N. 6th Street, Philadelphia. The fee is $99 per person, which includes instruction, a workbook, and lunch on both days.
Those interested in registering can do so online here.
Topics covered include how to engage people 50 + in community-based programs, craft volunteer opportunities that fuse organizational missions with age 50+ interests, field teams of volunteers to meet organizations’ pressing needs, develop high impact marketing, cultivate and retain volunteers, grow a volunteer program, and create a strategic, goal-oriented action plan.
The Lab has been presented to over 4,000 nonprofit professionals in 24 communities across the country; this will be the only Learning Lab offered this year to organizations in the Philadelphia area.
A comprehensive evaluation of this program in 2011 determined that 96% of the nonprofit professionals trained increased their understanding of the value that people 50+ can provide to their organizations and 95% made organizational changes to become more effective at engaging older adults.
The supporting sponsor is Generocity.org. Co-sponsors include United Way of Southeastern Pennsylvania, AARP Pennsylvania, Bucks County Area Agency on Aging, Bucks County RSVP, Delaware County Office of Services to the Aging, The Intergenerational Center at Temple University, JEVS Human Services, Klein JCC, Montgomery County Area Agency on Aging, Montgomery County Foundation, Montgomery County RSVP, and Philadelphia Corporation for Aging.
