LaSalle, Wharton set capacity building conference

The Alliance for Nonprofit Management, Citibank Community Development, the Nonprofit Center at LaSalle University School of Business, and the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School will sponsor Capacity Building for Today and Tomorrow:  An Intergenerational Dialogue and Skill Building Seminar at the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania , Jon M. Huntsman Hall, 3730 Walnut Street, in Philadelphia on Friday December 16th from 8am to 3pm.

The conference brings together a number of scholars and highly skilled practitioners to offer a day-long, free-of-charge event for area nonprofit leaders, capacity builders, and related stakeholders. The program is intended for the talented individuals who work in and lead nonprofits, and the sponsors encourage organizations to send pairs of people, with one person being a nonprofit executive director, senior leader, or board member and the other person being an organization staff or board member from a different generation.

At this conference, participants will explore how nonprofit professionals from different generations address similar issues in their own ways. Research indicates that there is a significant amount of similarity between generations in terms of what they value. Yet, we often view the world, communicate, and find community in vastly different ways. How do we learn each other’s language and talk across generations in a way that clarifies real distinctions and promotes camaraderie?

The goals for the program are to look more deeply at this question while also strengthening the network of nonprofits across the region, engaging in a sector level dialogue, and providing an opportunity for skill building.
