Compact Impact: The Journal of Texas Campus Compact
Call for Submissions
Submissions are due by October 26, 2007.
The target date for publication is January, 2008.
The Mission of Compact Impact:
Through the publication of peer-reviewed articles, Compact Impact aims to support faculty and institutions of higher education in the development of service-learning curriculum and academic endeavors that educate students for civic involvement and civic values. Compact Impact also encourages efforts to build campus and community partnerships that create service opportunities for students in support of sound educational objectives.
Topics of Interest:
The editors accept for review all articles pertaining to service-learning and other pedagogies that promote civic engagement. Submissions pertaining to multiculturalism, best practices, student reflection, and community partnerships are especially encouraged. Other topics related to service-learning include affective and cognitive development, empathy, social concern, leadership, social responsibility, poverty, human rights and social justice. Submissions from all disciplines and interdisciplinary approaches are welcome. Articles jointly authored by faculty and students or faculty and community partners are also encouraged.
Topics that are Discouraged:
As stated, the focus of the journal is on community service undertaken in the context of college or university courses as part of a pedagogical strategy designed to promoted civic engagement. Therefore, articles on extra-curricular activities, student volunteerism, internships, and experiential learning narrowly tied to professional training or licensure are discouraged.
Criteria for Evaluation and Selection:
Articles for Compact Impact are selected by double-blind peer review. Competitive articles are:
1. Topical and of interest to Compact Impact readers, including faculty, professional staff and administrators working in higher education.
2. Innovative, insightful or offering new and useful research.
3. Based on appropriate research and sound methodology.
4. Coherent and well argued.
5. Well-written and accessible, using APA guidelines and citation method.
Submission Requirements and Procedures
1. Articles must not have been previously published and must not be under consideration with another publisher.
2. Articles should be five to ten pages in length. Articles should be no longer than 3,500 words in length and should include a short (2 to 3 sentence) biography of the contributing author(s).
3. An abstract must be included with your submission.
4. Formatting issues and conventions:
− Use APA conventions, including the APA method for citations.
− Avoid referring to students who participate in service-learning projects as ?volunteers.?
5. Articles may be submitted electronically or by U.S. mail. Author identification should be given only on the cover page.
Submissions are due by October 26, 2007.
The target date for publication is January, 2008.
