CALL FOR PROPOSALS — WE NEED PRESENTERS!!!

2005 Gulf-South Summit on Service-Learning and Civic Engagement through Higher Education

April 6-8, 2005
Hilton Oceanfront — Cocoa Beach, Florida

Higher education faculty, staff, students, administrators are invited to submit proposals for concurrent breakout sessions in the following categories: Individual Papers, Interactive Workshops, Panel Presentations and Poster Sessions.

SUMMIT OVERVIEW:
There has been a great deal of discussion and growth in higher education institutions around the concepts of service-learning, community engagement, and how institutions can foster civic responsibility and democratic renewal. This Summit unites our region locally and nationally in dialogue. The Summit’s purpose is to facilitate a discussion of best practices, share research, and foster a professional network of practitioners in all levels of service-learning as pedagogy.
The goals of the summit are:
1. To explore the roles and responsibilities of higher education in civic engagement.
2. To build greater awareness of service-learning and civic engagement activities throughout the South.
3. To facilitate dialogue and networking among service-learning advocates and practitioners in the South.
4. To foster the development of service-learning and civic engagement infrastructures within post secondary institutions as a means of institutional and faculty renewal.
5. To provide a forum for presenting and discussing service-learning research.
6. To explore the theoretical and practical implications of service-learning and civic engagement.
7. To increase knowledge about effective partnerships for higher education institutions, community-based organizations and projects including K-12.
