Posted by Wake Forest University on July 29, 2025
The Wake Forest University Office of Civic & Community Engagement and North Carolina Campus Engagement are excited to announce the launch of Catalyst a new interdisciplinary journal of service-learning and civic engagement.
Catalyst is dedicated to advancing the scholarship of service-learning and community engagement through an interdisciplinary, open-source, and peer-reviewed platform. We provide a space for critical inquiry, reflection, and dialogue, amplifying diverse voices and fostering collaboration among boundary-spanning students, faculty, staff, and community leaders.
Catalyst strives to deepen understanding and practice in the field by sharing innovative research, creative works, case studies, and community-driven projects that promote social justice, civic engagement, and sustainable change.
Call for Proposals for the Inaugural Issue
Theme: Sustaining Civic Joy in Challenging Times
Deadline: December 31, 2025
Despite the challenges higher education is facing, how can service-learning and community engagement initiatives continue to create spaces for empowerment that cultivate civic joy, collective well-being, and resilience?
We welcome a wide range of interpretations and approaches to the theme and encourage both traditional and creative formats that highlight the power of civic joy in transformative work.
