Call for Proposals: Engage, Educate, Empower: Men of Color Conference (CCP) – Apr 28

Posted by Community College of Philadelphia on March 21, 2023

Community College of Philadelphia is announcing a free, first-of-its-kind conference for Black and LatinE men and high school-aged male students later this year: Engage, Educate, Empower: Men of Color Conference, October 14, 2023, 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, 1700 Spring Garden Street, Philadelphia, PA 19130. The theme is There Must Come a Change. The Keynote Speaker will be Dr. Molefi Kete Asante, Temple University professor in the Department of Africology.

The conference is designed to engage and educate young males of color about their opportunities for success through higher education, professional training and mentorship. The conference theme, There Must Come a Change, pays tribute to Octavius V. Catto, the Philadelphia civil rights leader, voting rights advocate, educator and veteran who was killed in 1871 on Election Day, and the namesake of the College’s Octavius Catto Scholarship. This day of engaging programming will provide a positive and supportive space for participants to learn and share ideas.

If you or someone you know may be interested in presenting an in-person session at the conference, please submit a proposal by April 28. Proposals should relate to one or more of three program topics, including: communities, schools and workplaces; politics; and home life.
