Call for Proposals: Community Schools, The Engine for Change

NOW ACCEPTING WORKSHOP PROPOSALS

This April, the Coalition for Community Schools is partnering with Cincinnati Public Schools and the Community Learning Centers Institute for the 2014 National Forum:

Opportunity for All: Community Schools, The Engine for Change

This year’s theme reflects the Coalition’s commitment to equal opportunity for all students and our belief that community schools, with their deep and sustained relationships between schools and community partners, are the “engine” that will prepare our young people, families, and communities, to live and work in the 21st century. The Forum seeks workshops that mirror the principles of community schools that are fundamental aspects of an equity strategy – deep community engagement and participation, strong youth, family and resident voice, shared accountability, building on community assets, strengths, and strong partnerships.

We seek workshops that reflect the core theme and goals of this year’s national forum. The goals are to:

Position Community Schools as a primary vehicle for achieving equity and opportunity in public education;
Strengthen relationships between Community Schools and related enterprises (e.g. Promise Neighborhoods, Choice Neighborhoods, P20 initiatives, etc.) working to improve the well-being of children, families, and communities;
Strengthen emerging state networks;
Provide practitioners and leaders with the tools and know-how to organize, operate, and scale up community schools; and,
Raise the visibility of the Community Schools strategy nationally.
