Democracy and liberal education are inextricably linked. As democratic values falter, liberal education becomes more vulnerable—and more vital.
At the 2026 Annual AAC&U (American Association of Colleges and Universities) Meeting, Answering the Call for Constructive Engagement, educators, thought leaders, policymakers, and others committed to these fundamental values will gather to explore opportunities for collective action in response to the unprecedented government overreach and political interference now engulfing higher education.
We invite proposals for conference sessions that both acknowledge the enormity of the moment and, by showcasing the vibrancy and resilience of liberal education, demonstrate what’s at stake for our students, our communities, our national prosperity, and our democracy.
