Call for Presenters: Philly Beyond Oil conference

We are issuing this open call to community members and activists interested in presenting at this conference. Please submit proposals to [email protected].
There are four tracks for workshops and presenters:
Peak Oil: Information related to the science of oil depletion, consequences of oil depletion, and strategies for addressing problems emerging from the end of cheap oil.
Climate Crisis: The science of climate change, political and media strategies for addressing the climate crisis, actions at the personal, community, city, state and federal level for addressing the climate crisis. Alternative and renewable energy, conservation. Discussion of oil versus coal, nuclear, wind and other sources of energy.
War and Peace: The war in Iraq, role of oil in conflicts and human rights abuses, relationship between Islam and the U.S., the geopolitics of oil.
Public Health/Economic Justice: The role of oil in asthma, cancer and other public health issues. The uneven health and economic impacts of our fossil fuel economy. Strategies for linking urban development and jobs with the transition to new energy sources. Struggles in Philadelphia around MTBE and the oil refineries.
Please identify which track or tracks your proposal falls under. A draft workshop schedule is posted at http://www.phillybeyondoil.org. A proposal should include:
1. Biography/credentials of the presenter
2. One paragraph description of the message/resource/perspective
3. Full contact information.
Please send your proposal to [email protected]. This call was issued July 12, 2005. The deadline for submissions is July 30, 2005. We encourage submissions from academics, activists, community members, faith leaders, professionals, journalists, elected representatives, city/state employees, the business community, and those from our region’s diverse immigrant population.
