Call for Participant: Service-Learning as Feminist Pedagogy

We seek a final participant in our proposed roundtable at the National Women’s Studies Association meeting to be held June 17-20, 2004 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
The theme of this roundtable is “service learning as feminist pedagogy”. We hope to provide practical advice to educators wishing to incorporate service learning initiatives in their classrooms or departments. We believe service learning is a model of feminist pedagogy becasue it values experience as a tool for learning and allows students to act out in the community what they are learning in the academy. Therefore, service learning is an example of praxis – theory put into practice.
Our papers will be practice-oriented, explaining what we’ve tried, our accomplishments and challenges along the way. We hope to engage in a dialogue about service learning and its place in higher education.
