Call for Papers: Spirituality, Social Justice, and Service-Learning

Posted by on October 10, 2003

Announcement and Call for Papers – A conference on Spirituality, Social Justice and Service-Learning will be held at Messiah College, Grantham PA, June 3-5, 2004. Dr. Paul Loeb, author of Soul of a Citizen: Living with Conviction in a Cynical Time, will give the keynote address and lead a seminar.

The conference is for teaching and co-curricular faculty and administrators from a broad range of colleges and universities. We will explore pedagogical, theological, spiritual and theoretical foundations of service-learning, discuss good practices for service-learning, and look at models of effective programs. We particularly want to look at contributions various faith traditions bring to service-learning.

The conference is sponsored by Messiah College and funded by the Lilly Endowment, Inc. Registration is $100 and includes all meals and lodging in single air-conditioned rooms at Messiah College.

We invite proposals for papers, workshops or other presentations exploring conceptual themes, describing model programs, describing the contributions of particular faith perspectives, or topics related to the practice of service-learning. A one page proposal should be sent to John W. Eby, Messiah College Box 3057, One College Ave. Grantham, PA 17027, or [email protected] as soon as possible but no later than March 1, 2004.
