Call for Papers for Special Food Systems and Social Justice Issue
EXTENDED DEADLINE: December 15, 2013

The editorial board of the Journal of Critical Thought and Praxis (JCTP) invites you to submit your work for inclusion in our Spring 2014 Special Issue on food systems and social justice. JCTP is a peer-reviewed on-line journal committed to providing a space for critical and progressive scholarship, practice, and activism. Our mission is to create an accessible and inter/transdisciplinary journal that supports awareness and challenges individuals to move towards advocacy. The journal brings together emerging scholars, educators, and activists with the intention of providing recognition to the work of the social justice community. JCTP explores, challenges, and pushes the boundaries among multiple disciplines, while providing all authors with developmental feedback.

The Spring JCTP issue is devoted to topics related to food and agriculture as a way to explore how social justice intersects with the production of food, fiber, and fuel locally, nationally, and internationally. Additionally, there are many food system problems such as pesticide poisoning, the impacts of polluted wells, the treatment of farm and food processing employees, the rising cost of food, and health concerns linked to hunger and obesity. Ecological decline also affects communities all over the world and can be a consequence of, or a contributor to, food system failures.

We want to hear from scholars, practitioners, and activists in the U.S. and abroad and encourage new scholars in and across multiple disciplines to develop theoretical or empirical work relating back to social justice themes in the realm of food and agricultural systems. We are looking for pieces to cover a broad base of approaches including:

  • Accounts from activists
  • Arts-based research
  • Book reviews
  • Critical inquiry and methodology
  • Empirical research
  • Policy analysis
  • Social justice practitioner reflections
  • Theoretical essays

Specific Guidelines:

Submissions must include an abstract and should be no more than 30 pages double-spaced (not including abstract, figures, photos, tables, appendices, notes, and references). Manuscripts should follow APA 6th Edition guidelines (if applicable to manuscript). Please include a cover letter with your submission explaining how your work contributes to the mission and scope of JCTP.

For more detailed author guidelines and submission procedures, please see the journal’s website.
