Open Call for Papers for Special Issue Journal of Educational and Psychological Consultation
Educational and Psychological Consultation within Community-University Partnerships
The Journal of Educational and Psychological Consultation invites submissions of manuscripts for a special issue on consultation that occurs within partnerships between universities and community organizations (e.g. schools, clubs, clinics, community centers, tutoring service providers, etc.).
Increasingly, institutions of higher education are investing time, energy and resources on local issues and community articulated social problems. Community-university partnerships create value to the academic community and to the neighborhoods, town, and cities in which universities are located as well as to global communities. They are using physical, financial, and intellectual capital to provide consultation, facilitate technical assistance, and create opportunities for applied, place-based research in and with communities. Examples of this work include service-learning which provides university students and community organizations opportunities to learn from each other through real life application of academic concepts, along with other types of partnerships. This special issue is focused on educational and psychological consultation that occurs within partnerships between universities and community organizations.
We welcome original empirical studies in addition to theoretical contributions that speak to innovative strategies in community-university partnerships. We are primarily interested in submissions that are empirical, although theoretical or conceptual papers will be considered if they contribute significantly to the literature base. Example topic areas include, but are not limited to: (a) applications and evaluations of various consultation models, (b) development of consultation practices that support community growth or problem solving, (c) service-learning initiatives, (d) engagement in systems-level consultation, and (e) case studies on building and maintaining partnerships between universities and community organizations with an emphasis on consultation activities within these partnerships.
We ask potential authors to submit an abstract of approximately 500 words outlining the proposed manuscript and a description of the relevant community-university partnership. Abstracts should include a statement addressing which topic area(s) best fits the proposed article. We will emphasize work that highlights sustained, sustainable, and mutually beneficial partnerships.
Abstracts should be submitted by Friday, May 4, 2018 to Drs. Gregory Moy ([email protected]) and Kristi Lee ([email protected]). All manuscripts will be blind peer-reviewed. Selected authors will be invited to submit manuscripts for full blind review by June 30, 2018. Please contact the co-editors with any inquiries.
