Contributions are invited for a Special Issue of Teaching in Higher Education on ‘Diversity and Commonality in Higher Education’ to be published in 2007.
What is diversity in higher education? Should it be celebrated or problematised? Are there limitations in current understandings? Has the language of diversity come to preclude the embracing of different forms of knowledge and ways of knowing?
They are inviting contributions which critically address issues of diversity and commonality in higher education. By critical they include work which:
a.. attempts to reveal hidden assumptions behind commonly accepted views in order to show why they should be rejected
b.. engages with, explores, and destabilises discourses, values, and practices
c.. questions taken-for-granted concepts and methods
d.. suggests new forms of enquiry and syntheses
e.. imagines better futures
f.. Contributions might include essays, studies of practice, reflexive accounts. We would particularly welcome other forms of critically engaged writing.
Four copies of the paper, together with an abstract of 150/200 words, should be forwarded to:
Professor Sue Clegg, c/o Helen Oliver, School of Education, University of Sheffield, 388 Glossop Road, Sheffield S10 2JA, UK on or before 1st August 2006.
