Call for Papers: Accountability in Teacher Education

Posted by on September 12, 2003

The Teacher Educator (http://www.bsu.edu/tte) focuses on issues, research, and program innovations that relate to preservice teacher preparation and to continued professional development of teachers. A thematic issue on “Accountability in Teacher Education” is planned for Spring 2004.

Accountability in Teacher Education – Spring 2004
Teacher education institutions are facing new and stringent expectations on programs leading toward licensure. Schools and colleges of education must now address issues such as program alignment, statewide or national assessments, alternative certification providers, standardized performance outcomes, and public reporting of results. This move to evidence-based teacher education is
encouraging new partnerships, structures, technologies and relationships, but is also raising many justified concerns related to curriculum standardization and supporting infrastructure for ongoing data collection, among others. The Teacher Educator is soliciting manuscripts that explore and expand this topic.

Potential topics are:
1. What are the adverse and unintended effects of these expectations on students, programs, and/or faculty?
2. What are the beneficial and intended effects of these expectations on students, programs, and/or faculty?
3. How are institutions responding to this most recent call for accountability in teacher education? In particular, how are institutions creating the infrastructure for the massive data collection and reporting requirements?
4. How are institutions adhering to the new mandates of accountability yet still maintaining a unique and/or local philosophy to teacher education?

The types of manuscripts that will be reviewed for publication consideration are quantitative, qualitative, and conceptual manuscripts. Manuscript Preparation Guidelines can be found at the Journal’s website at http://www.bsu.edu/teachers/services/tte/guidelines.html

If you have any questions, please contact the Co- Editors, Laurie

Submission deadline is October 15, 2003.
