Call for Nominations
Ernest A. Lynton Award
for
Faculty Professional Service & Academic Outreach
The annual Ernest A. Lynton Award for Faculty Professional Service and Academic Outreach recognizes a faculty member who connects his or her expertise and scholarship to community outreach. Unlike traditional service-learning awards that focus on the link between teaching and service, the Lynton Award emphasizes the connection more broadly to incorporate professional service and academic outreach. Faculty professional service (also known as the scholarship of engagement, outreach scholarship, scholarship for the common good, and community based scholarship) is broadly characterized by work that is tied to a faculty member’s expertise, is of benefit to the external community, reflects the mission of the institution, and is visible and shared.
The award will be presented during the American Association for Higher Education’s (AAHE) National Conference, Courage, Imagination, Action: Rallying the Trendsetters in Higher Education, March 17-20, 2005 in Atlanta.
The recipient of the award will be selected according to the following criteria:
1) Must demonstrate a sustained effort in outreach and professional service;
2) Utilizes innovative and imaginative approaches;
3) Has an internal institutional impact (through teaching, campus program development, faculty and student participation); and
4) Can show evidence of external success (through scholarly output, community impact and/or student learning).
To nominate a faculty member please send NERCHE four copies of the following:
a. One letter of nomination that fully describes how the nominee meets the four criteria listed above
b. The nominee’s resume or c.v.
c. A 2-3 paragraph biographical statement
All nominations must be received by Wednesday, December 29. We cannot accept faxed or emailed nominations. The winner will be notified in late January 2005.
