Introduction
The work of service-learning has been around since the 1960s, and the literature on the implementation of it, primarily in the higher education context, has developed over the last two decades to include publications in peer-reviewed journals and chapters in edited books. Collectively, the research to date indicates that service-learning is becoming more frequently implemented across educational contexts to help students find their place in the world, where they have power and agency, and where they can make a change. However, there are few edited collections solely focused on the implementation of service-learning in all educational contexts. There are chapters on service-learning embedded in edited books on related topics (e.g., “Engaging STEM: Service-Learning, Technology, Science Education and Community Partnerships” in Higher Education, Emerging Technologies, and Community Partnerships: Concepts, Models and Practices)However, there isn’t a collection solely dedicated to service-learning. The few edited collections published to date focus mostly on the implementation of service-learning in the higher education context. It goes without saying that it is necessary to focus on the research on the practical aspects of service-learning implementation in all educational contexts. So, it is beneficial to have an edited collection focused on service-learning in multiple educational contexts, that spotlights current practice, pedagogy, and research.
