Organization Description
The Center for Environmental Transformation (CFET) is an environmental retreat center with five urban gardens located in Camden, NJ that engages and educates people of all backgrounds to practice a more environmentally responsible way of living on the planet. Founded out of a faith community, rooted in the Roman Catholic tradition of social and environmental justice, CFET works in partnership with the community to advance solutions to environmental challenges and to create a sustainable and healthy source of fresh food.
Job Description
CFET seeks a part-time Business Manager to work with youth in our Eco Intern and Assistant Farmer programs to develop and market value-added products from the produce we grow. CFET operates approximately 1-acre of farm, orchard and greenhouse space that serves as a training site for Camden youth in farming, nutrition, entrepreneurship and leadership development. Each year we employ and train 12-15 Eco Interns and 3 Assistant Farmers. They are in the process of growing a social enterprise that includes selling produce from the farm, hot sauce, honey and beeswax products like medicinal salves and tinctures.
The Business Manager will be responsible for:
• Training the Eco Interns and Assistant Farmers in entrepreneurship: product development, marketing, budgeting, pricing, sales and distributing.
• Supervising the Eco Interns and Assistant Farmers in producing and bottling.
• Supervising the Eco Interns and Assistant Farmers in developing marketing and distribution strategies and content.
• Facilitating and accompanying Assistant Farmers to sales meetings at local businesses and non-profit organizations.
• Doing market research associated with each of the products.
Qualifications:
• BA in Business, Marketing or related experience
• At least 3 years of experience in working with high school aged youth
• Preferred experience in or knowledge of social entrepreneurship
• Preferred experience in growing food and herbal medicinals
• Preferred experience in creating PR materials
• Must pass a NJ State Background check
Position Details:
• This position is part-time (an average of 20 hours per week) and funded through a specific grant that ends on June 30, 2015. Depending on funding there may be the opportunity to continue the position.
• Availability: Fridays from 1:30-6:00 pm in August and 3:30-6:30 pm during the school year as well as at least two additional days per week from 3:30-6:30 pm during the school year.
• Pay is commensurate with experience.
