POSITION:             Business Development Intern
START DATE:             March 2011
HOURS:             Approximately 10 hours per week
DURATION:             Minimum of one semester
LOCATION:             The Bourse Building, 5th and Market, Philadelphia, PA
COMPENSATION:         Unpaid; Course Credit
REPORTS TO:             Executive Director; Director of Entrepreneur Services

ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION:
Entrepreneur Works, formerly known as Philadelphia Development Partnership, is a nonprofit organization with the mission to cultivate and promote successful microenterprises in distressed communities throughout the Greater Philadelphia region, thus creating economic prosperity and employment. Entrepreneur Works provides a comprehensive array of business development services and financial products for microenterprises, including: microloans, peer group education and support, business skills training courses and workshops, technical assistance and networking opportunities.  Entrepreneur Works’ target population consists of aspiring and established entrepreneurs who are low-income, minority or otherwise disadvantaged. GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The primary responsibility of the intern will be to conduct market research and create a comprehensive and formal business plan for Entrepreneur Works’ office rental service, which will allow entrepreneurs to rent office space for business activities (e.g. meetings, transactions, interviews, etc.).  This service is currently in concept phase and will be presented to potential partners and funders upon completion of the business plan.  The intern will work closely with the director of entrepreneur services who is spearheading the project.  Additional projects and experiences designed to contribute to Entrepreneur Works and further the intern’s knowledge of the domestic microenterprise field will be assigned—time permitting.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
•    Perform ongoing research, collecting data on market trends, similar services offered in the Philadelphia area, demand and need from entrepreneurs, etc…
•    Outline elements of business plan and identify required resources for each
•    Construct business plan

EDUCATION, INTEREST, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
•    Senior-level undergraduate or graduate student.
•    Advanced study in nonprofit management, business administration, economics or related field preferred.
•    Demonstrated experience and/or coursework in research methods and business.
•    Proven strong skills in verbal and written communications.
•    Detail-oriented, highly organized and an independent self-starter.
•    Must be able to commit to at least one quarter/semester and work independently and remotely.
