BuildaBridge Institute 2011
10th Anniversary Celebration
Transforming Lives Through The Creative Arts
The BuildaBridge Institute provides multiple intensive learning experiences through: The Open Institute June 1-5, The Arts Relief Course June 6, and the MA in Urban Studies Residency will be held on June 1-9. The training will be hosted at Eastern University on Falls Center Campus located at 3300 Henry Ave, Philadelphia, PA. The registration deadline is May 13 (Registration form available February 9). We hope that you will join us.
Who Should Attend and Why?
This intensive learning experience will be beneficial to artists, teachers, social service professionals, youth workers, community and congregational leaders, and non-profit personnel. There will be two simultaneous track courses from June 1-5. Participants will learn foundational theory, arts education, community arts management, applied arts intervention methods and art skills. The Arts Relief one-day training course on June 6 will feature psychological first aid and arts relief. Participants will have the option of attaining a Certificate for Arts in Transformation. In celebrating the 10th Anniversary there will be a Symposium and Exhibition highlighting the work of Institute Alumni from around the country on June 4th and 5th respectively.
This will be coupled with an Artist Retreat held from June 3-5 at the Falls Center, attracting former Institute Alumni. During this retreat there will be a series of five art activities that will be introduced, created, and processed for personal meaning and application. There will also be an emphasis on exploring extensions, variations on a theme, and possible ways of adapting the art activity to each participant’s unique work setting. While the activities will focus on the visual arts, artists from other disciplines are encouraged to attend in order to enrich our mutual art-making experiences. Two former Institute Alumni and faculty members will lead the retreat, both are professional artists and practitioners.

Comments of Previous Attendees
“Loved the experience of being with such a diverse artistic group. Got a great overview of factors never considered in doing this work. The mission of BuildaBridge and the power of the arts was really affirmed repeatedly and compellingly.” (2009 Alumna)
“I am so grateful for this experience. I feel transformed. I am now aware of the research that lay ahead of me to construct my classroom and lesson plan. Thank you for allowing me to participate and supporting my transformation!” (2009 Alumna)
“Rather than a training institute, I see this as valuable on-going professional development. Track 2 seems well planned and engaging.” (2009 Alumna)
