BuildaBridge Art Institute

Posted by on January 5, 2009

In January 2009, BuildaBridge will open registration for its eighth annual Institute which will take place at Bryn Mawr College (Bryn Mawr, PA) on June 3-7. BuildaBridge Institute 2009 will include two simultaneous track courses in foundational theory, arts management and education, applied arts and collaborative art-making; and a new innovative training in Emergency Art Relief (EAR) featuring basic art aid training and emergency relief.

BuildaBridge Institute is geared towards all professionals and community workers who want to better serve those in need by learning new empowerment and healing techniques and effective ways to implement them. Fundamental subjects such as education, healing, creativity, spiritual and human development are combined with artistic mediums into tools to nurture individual and holistic growth in the context of community arts programming. Courses include: Foundations for Arts in Transformation, Arts and Spiritual Development, Arts in Education, Arts and Human Development, Organization for Community Arts, Arts in Social Services, Arts in Healing, Leadership Practicum, Skills Development Workshops and our special Methods Lab Practicum where students observe a lead artist work with youth at a local shelter. The Institute is not just a source of information, but also a platform to build social capital and inspire new ideas through a sense of belonging to the world of social service. In the past seven years, the Institute has trained more than 285 individuals from USA, Europe, Latin America, and the Middle East with different professional backgrounds including: social workers, communication professionals, educators, social service practitioners, church leaders, youth workers and artists. The Institute has also attracted a faculty body of 80 (and growing) professional artists, arts educators and community arts practitioners from the Philadelphia area and USA.

Registration costs are $500 for early applicants (January – March) and $550 for late applicants (April – May). An additional estimated $250 will cover room and board at Bryn Mawr College for 4 days. Every year, pending available funding, BuildaBridge Institute offers 5-10 scholarships that cover full registrations costs.
