Philadelphia Wooden Boat Factory would like to invite students associated with members of the SLSO group to take part in our boat building service learning projects. We are currently building 4 tender boats (dories)for the World Ocean School to be used on the Schooner Roseway of Camden Maine. Roseway is a schoolship where environmental stewardship and charecter development are taught to students from around the world. The boats being built in Philadelphia will enable World Ocean School and Roseway to carry out their mission.
We are also building 15 foot wooden canoes with grade school boys and girls. College age service learning students would be a powerful example and a welcome addition to the experience for the kids. The students donate their efforts to orgainzations that struggle, due to lack of vessels, to get more kids on the water. Our elementary and middle school builders have donated over 100 canoes to organizations in 5 states.
If you have any students that might be interested in either project please contact me for more details.
Thank you
Christina Piazza
