General Description
Community Women’s Education Project (CWEP) is committed to fulfilling its mission by advancing the education and training programs to provide an opportunity for participants to acquire family-sustaining work and access to postsecondary education.
With a focus on nontraditional work for women, CWEP has launched a strategic plan and is developing and implementing new programs that will assist individuals with acquiring the skills necessary to get a job in a high priority or demand industry.
To that end, CWEP has developed new partnerships to implement a workforce development initiative that will require the skills and expertise of a diverse and professional group. This is an exciting transitional period for CWEP and we welcome new members to the Board of Directors to engage in this process. Areas of expertise that are needed include marketing, legal, communications, public relations, technology and financial/accounting.
Community Women’s Education Project, a community-based organization located in the Kensington area of Philadelphia, was founded in 1977 to support families as they move toward self-sufficiency. CWEP provides an array of educational and support services, primarily for women, including PreGED & GED preparation, college prep, ESL, family workforce literacy and childcare. CWEP subscribes to a holistic approach to education which includes support services; therefore, career coaching and case management are integral components of the programming. Additionally, CWEP is a food distribution site for Philabundance.
