Black Women in Church Hats
Posted by on June 18, 2004
A lively and soul-stirring portrait of African American women and how they define themselves through their hats, Crowns explores the religious, cultural and symbolic importance of hats, from ceremonial headdresses in Africa to the civil rights era and beyond. Written by Golden Globe Award-Winning actress and playwright Regina Taylor, this beautiful, gospel-infused show is adapted from the acclaimed book of photographs and interviews, “Crowns: Portraits of Black Women in Church Hats” by Michael Cunningham and Craig Marberry.
You can support WOMENS WAY by purchasing advance tickets to Crowns for the 7:00 p.m. performances taking place on Tuesday, June 22 and Wednesday, June 23 at the Prince Music Theater, 1412 Chestnut Street in Philadelphia. For each of these two performances, $10 of the $43 ticket price will be donated to WOMENS WAY, when tickets are purchased through us in advance. Furthermore, the best seats in the house, located in the first four rows, are being held for supporters of WOMENS WAY. Reservations can be made by contacting Jacqueline Shultz at [email protected] or by phone at 215-985-3328, ext. 225.
