Black History Month Resources, Pulitzer Center

Posted by Pulitzer Center on February 14, 2023

Since 1976, February has officially been recognized as Black History Month in the United States. In celebration, we’re sharing a variety of resources and opportunities to bring Black History into your classroom this month, and year-round.

Schedule a free virtual journalist visit: Take a look at some of our featured guest speakers, who can share stories about Black communities, identity, and racial justice and discuss contemporary issues affecting Black people and the diaspora.

Explore unit plans on racial justice by teachers, for teachers: In this unit plan from 2021-2022 Pulitzer Center Teacher Fellow Liz Taylor, students explore underreported stories of Black excellence, resistance, and joy and create collages for a class museum.

In this conversation-based lesson plan from 2020-2021 Pulitzer Center Teacher Fellow Jairus Hallums, students explore underreported stories about marginalized communities’ experiences and struggles for justice by centering stories of joy.
