Bill McKibben, Step it Up Organizer, at Penn Law
Posted by on April 9, 2007
Bill McKibben, best-selling author, environmentalist, and organizer of StepItUp 2007, will speak in Philadelphia on Wednesday, April 11th, three days before the National Day of Climate Action. He will speak at Penn’s Biddle Law Library, 3460 Chestnut Street at 7 PM. Evening entrance is from Sansom between 34th and 35th.
Alarmed over the lack of political will to effectively address the climate crisis, McKibben is focusing everyone on one message, “Step it up, Congress! Cut Carbon 80% by 2050.”
Over 1200 simultaneous rallies are planed in 50 states. Philadelphia’s Day of Climate Action is scheduled for Noon on Saturday, April 14th at Independence Mall.
McKibben is the author of The End of Nature, routinely cited as a classic work on the environmental crisis. The End of Nature, published in 1989, sounded one of the earliest alarms about global warming. Scholar-in-residence at Middlebury College and former staff writer for The New Yorker, McKibben?s books include Enough: Staying Human in an Engineered Age; The Age of Missing Information; and Hope, Human and Wild. His latest book, Deep Economy, challenges the prevailing view of our economy and offers a more promising alternative. He is a frequent contributor to The New York Review of Books, Outside, and The New York Times.
