Bilingual Tassel Team Captain, Graduation Coach Campaign

Posted by City of Philadelphia on January 5, 2015

The Graduation Coach Campaign is an initiative of the Mayor’s Office of Education that provides information, resources, and strategies to adults to help them guide students through school. In addition to workshops and digital resources, the Graduation Coach Campaign is undertaking a grassroots, face-to-face initiative in the Kensington area.

GCC is seeking reliable individuals to serve as its Tassel Team Captains in the Kensington area. Tassel Team Captains will oversee the street canvassing efforts of the GCC, interacting with residents, taking notes, and distributing printed materials about education. They may oversee volunteers at their sites. Once a month, Tassel Team Captains may also drop off materials at local businesses and organizations.

• Explain the mission of the Graduation Coach Campaign to community members
• Listen attentively to residents and document their concerns
• Answer residents’ questions when possible, and write down contact information for follow-up when applicable
• Document required information about the session on the provided forms
• Distribute printed materials to community businesses and organizations
• Tassel Team Captains may on occasion be required to pick up materials from City Hall

• Comfortable approaching people and striking up a conversation
• Able to take good notes, write clearly, and submit paperwork in a timely fashion
• The ability to represent the Mayor’s Office in a neutral manner (not sharing your own opinions while working for the Graduation Coach Campaign)
• The ability to remain calm and pleasant when interacting with difficult people
