Beyond Childhood: Burdens of Parental Incarceration for Black and Latina Women – Oct 19

Parental incarceration is not a discrete event and can extend beyond childhood. An examination on the long-term effects of parental incarceration through the lens of race, ethnicity, and gender remains understudied. Drawing on semi-structured interviews, Dr. Noel explicates how Black and Latina young women compartmentalize the experience of parental incarceration. Further, she provides additional insight to existing theoretical perceptions of critical race feminism and policy implications that will enable young women to rise above adverse circumstances.
