Title: “Beyond Beats & Rhymes” media literacy workshop tour

Description: Do you work with students who might be interested in recording their own video podcasts? in making their own film shorts? If so, have we got a FREE program for you! kaPow! and WHYY are currently promoting the national broadcast of “Beyond Beats & Rhymes” on February 20th, through a “tour”-series of high school and community workshops which include a brief excerpt of the film, small group discussions about hip-hop and misogyny, and then actual filmmaking and podcast recordings. The youth who participate will be invited to attend two subsequent events:

1. a 2/13 youth-only full screening of the film (currently finalizing the location, possibly at CAPA or the Prince, or Ben Franklin HS)
2. a 2/22 youth showcase event to screen all of the film shorts (or photography or art or music…) created by students who participate in the “tour” series.

Do you think your students might be interested, or are there other high school teachers whose students might be interested in participating? Remember, participation requires NO COST for any involved school. Only willing, interested students! Please call Donyale Reavis at 215.882.4008 to schedule a workshop by FRIDAY, JANUARY 19th.
