PeopleForBikes Foundation Seeks LOIs for Bike Share Initiatives

The PeopleForBikes Foundation, a member of the Better Bike Share Partnership, is accepting Letters of Interest from collaborations of community-based nonprofits, cities, and bike share operators for the second round of its Challenge Grant Program.

Matching grants of between $25,000 and $75,000 will be awarded to support the development and implementation of strategies to increase bike share use in underserved communities. Approaches may include station access; outreach initiatives to introduce and promote bike share as a transportation option; marketing and communication efforts that demonstrate inclusiveness; partnerships with existing community-based organizations that offer resources and programs in the community; outreach and/or education related to bike share; partnerships with organizations focused on workforce development, health care, transportation, and social services, or with others that have experience working with residents in underserved communities; facilitating or expanding links to transit systems to improve transportation options; and the development or expansion of other strategies based on community specifics such as geography. Preference will be given to projects led by community-based organizations with support from the bike share operator, city department(s), and other local nonprofits .

In addition, the program will provide funding for the development, implementation, and documentation of strategies for employer-based programs and kiosk design, including language, graphics, and format.

A matching grant of at least of 20 percent from another source is required.

To be eligible, applicants must be a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization or a city or county government agency.

Letters of Interest must be received no later than November 13, 2015. Upon review, selected applicants will be invited to submit full applications by February 12, 2016.
