Youth Service America Announces New Awards Program for Young Female Social Entrepreneurs
Deadline: August 1, 2009
Youth Service America has announced the launch of the first annual Gladys Marinelli Coccia Awards, which recognize two female social entrepreneurs between the ages of 14 and 17 whose initiatives serve the common good. The awards were created in memory of Gladys Coccia, who began her entrepreneurial career when she was a young girl in West Virginia and later became a successful businesswoman in Washington, D.C.
To be eligible, nominees must be girls between the ages of 14 and 17 (as of December 31, 2009) who reside in the United States and have their own social enterprise. Special consideration will be given to nominees from West Virginia and metropolitan Washington, D.C. Self-nominations are accepted.
The award includes $2,000 for the winner’s social enterprise, travel to and registration at YSA’s Youth Service Institute, an invitation to serve on the executive board of Girls Helping Girls, and access to YSA’s resources to support and expand social enterprise.
The deadline to initiate an online nomination is June 15, 2009. The deadline to complete and submit a nomination is August 1, 2009.
Complete nomination materials, including an eligibility quiz and nomination form, are available at the YSA Web site.
