ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR, PRAXIS PROGRAM
Bryn Mawr College’s Leadership, Innovation and Liberal Arts Center (LILAC) is looking for an Associate Director for the Praxis Program, one of the College’s key Civic Engagement initiatives. Praxis is the College’s experiential education and community-based learning program that provides opportunities for students to connect theory and practice through useful engagement with community partners and ongoing reflection. The Associate Director will work closely with the Praxis Program Director to provide guidance, resources and field placement support to faculty, community partners and students that are engaged in Praxis courses. This is a full-time, 12 month position.
Essential Functions:
The Associate Director will
• Meet with Praxis course instructors to review course syllabi and to identify specific areas of Praxis support requested; maintain ongoing communication with faculty instructors throughout the semester
• Develop relevant Praxis options for Praxis courses, set up field placements, design and conduct Orientation sessions with course instructors, prepare and distribute all Praxis related paperwork to students
• Act as a liaison between Praxis faculty, students and community partners, conduct site visits, and administer assessment surveys to all stakeholders
• Facilitate the involvement of the community partners and field supervisors in the class in consultation with the course instructor
• Provide ongoing documentation of each Praxis course and write a final report that includes a summary of the course, a review of assessment findings, and recommendations for future semesters
• Conduct monthly Praxis Independent Study Information Sessions
• Provide overall field placement support to 15-25 Praxis Independent Study students annually; guide the development of their Learning Plans; conduct orientation sessions and monthly reflection meetings, and organize the end of semester Poster Session
• Participate in outreach to faculty regarding Praxis course connections
• Serve on LILAC interdepartmental planning committees and carry out other duties as assigned by supervisor
Qualifications:
• Master’s in Higher Education, Social Work or related field
• Three to five years post grad relevant work experience; minimum of two years direct experience in teaching or supporting field placements for curricular service learning/community-based learning in an institution of higher education
• Interest and experience in at least two of these areas: environmental studies/sustainability, education, community arts, economic justice, public health, and social justice
• Interest in helping students and faculty to build connections between academic learning, issues in our local and global communities and future career and work interests
• Demonstrated skills in designing and and facilitating workshops and training
• Demonstrated skills in engaging a wide variety of stakeholders, including faculty, community partners, students and staff
• Team oriented, comfortable balancing multiple projects at once, and experienced in working with diverse populations
• Proficiency with MS Office, Prezi, Powerpoint and social networking platforms
• Experience in career counseling and/or college student advising is a plus
• French, Spanish or Italian language proficiency is a plus (in order to support courses in those departments)
• Available for January 2014 start date
