The University of Pennsylvania School of Arts and Sciences (SAS) forms the foundation of the scholarly excellence that has established Penn as one of the world’s leading research universities. We teach students across all 12 Penn schools, and our academic departments span the reach from anthropology and biology to sociology and South Asian studies.
The SAS Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (ODEI) supports all students, faculty, staff, post docs, and alumni in the School of Arts and Sciences. We support dialogue, inquiry, and programming that works toward creating inclusive and equitable practices to provide access to academic research environments and the pursuit of knowledge. We accomplish this through robust recruitment and retention practices, building and sustaining a caring and supportive community, and deepening knowledge as well as connection to one another.
As part of the ODEI, the Science Outreach Initiative (SOI) supports access, inclusion, engagement, and a culture of belonging in STEM. The SOI creates, implements, and evaluates collaborative outreach and engagement activities between the University of Pennsylvania, the Philadelphia community, and other partners. We facilitate the bi-directional translation of scientific, mathematical technological, engineering, and technological knowledge between the University and its partners by fostering community connections.
